Local Rivers

20141210_143432Newport Rivers was established nearly 20 years ago and has successfully delivered many projects within the Newport area. It has been the fore-runner of the Island-wide project which started in 2014.

Ryde Rivers Group first met in March 2014 and identified a number of issues and possible projects on the following water-courses. As the Down to the Coast project develops we will be working with this group to determine how projects can be brought forward.

Eastern Yar Group. The Eastern Yar and its tributaries Scotchells Brook and Wroxall Stream are the largest water catchment on the Island. The Eastern Yar River Group first met in April 2014 and identified a number of opportunities that could be developed to improve its quality and how it functions, but these require a coordinated approach, they have met subsequently and a plan is now in place to start to develop projects. As the Down to the Coast project develops we will be working with this group to determine how projects can be brought forward.

The West Wight Rivers Group met in April 2014. A number of actions were identified and we are working to take these forward.
